Rancho Buena Vista High School, commonly known as RBV is located in the city of Vista in Northern San Diego County, California. It is a local school drawing its student body from its immediate vicinity. Nearly all the students live within a 2 mile radius.
The community of Vista is a suburban community, composed of working and professional people. It is solidly middle class, skewing toward the conservative end of the political spectrum.

RBV has a good reputation within the community and has met it's API goals for 2011 in all categories. Parent involvement is strong, with two active parent organizations; the Parent/Student/Teacher association and the Longhorn Foundation, which sponsors fundraising activities for the school.
